If you’re reading this, you’re likely in the home stretch of your pregnancy. Your to-do list for the nursery is a mile long, you’re trying to finalize your birth plan, and “book maternity photos” has been sitting on your list for a few weeks now.
I get it. I really do. You might feel more “swollen” than “glowing” today. The idea of getting professional hair and makeup done, finding an outfit that fits, and driving to a studio feels like a lot of effort when you’re already exhausted.
You’re probably asking yourself: Is this just one more expense before the baby arrives? Will I actually look at these?
As a maternity and newborn photographer here in Columbus, Ohio, I’ve sat across from hundreds of moms who felt that exact same hesitation. I want to give you the honest pros and cons; no fluff, just the truth about the investment.

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the cost. My sessions start at $1,000, and I know that is a real investment for any family. When you’re staring at a mounting pile of baby gear and essentials, it’s easy to categorize photography as a “luxury” you can skip.
But here is the perspective shift I see every single year: You aren’t paying for a digital file. You are paying to freeze a transformation. Once that baby is in your arms, the memory of what it felt like to carry them begins to fade surprisingly fast. You forget the way they kicked at 2:00 AM or the incredible way your body changed to build a life. In ten years, the cost of the session will be long forgotten, but that portrait of you looking radiant and strong? That becomes a family heirloom.

There are legitimate reasons why people skip these, and I’m not here to ignore them:
The Physical Toll: You’re tired. By 30-some weeks, your back might ache and your feet might be done for the day.
Self-Consciousness: Many women don’t feel like “themselves” during the third trimester.
The Logistics: It’s a time commitment to get ready and get to the studio.
My job is to eliminate those cons. In my studio, I handle the lighting, the styling, the gowns, the Hair and Make Up Artist, and the posing to highlight your best angles and hide the things you’re worried about. I make the experience worth it by providing a full-service environment where you don’t have to worry about a thing. You just show up, and I take care of the rest.

One of the biggest reasons to book a maternity session isn’t actually for you today. It’s for the person currently doing somersaults in your belly.
Imagine your child twenty years from now. They are going through old photos and they find a stunning, professional portrait of their mother, radiant and beautiful, waiting for them to arrive. It gives them a sense of where their story started. That is a gift you can’t give them later. You can’t go back and “re-take” Chapter One once the baby is born.

If you’ve already been looking into a newborn session, a maternity shoot is the perfect prologue. When you see your maternity portraits next to your newborn photos in a custom album, the story is complete. It’s the “before and after” of the greatest miracle you’ll ever experience.

Take a second to think about how fast this season of life is moving. Your due date will be here before you know it, and this version of your life will be a memory.
I only take a limited number of sessions each month to ensure every family gets the personal, high-end experience they deserve. If you’re on the fence, let’s at least have a conversation. I’d love to hear your vision, talk through your concerns, and show you how we can make you feel absolutely beautiful.
