You can book as early as the beginning of your second trimester! Because babies have their own arrival plans, I only take a limited number of sessions per month to ensure flexibility. We will get you tentatively penciled in on my calendar as soon as your retainer fee is paid.
I love to photograph newborns when they are around 14 days old, give or take a few days. When you book, we will tentatively pencil you in for about two weeks after your due date. Once your sweet baby arrives, we will adjust the date if needed.
It definitely gets a bit more challenging to pose newborns once they are over a month old because they lose that curled-up fetal flexibility and don't sleep as deeply. However, if your baby is already a little older, don't worry! My "Bundle Me" wrapped session is a fantastic option for babies over four weeks old (as long as they are under 10 lbs).
First, you'll reach out through my Inquiry Page. From there, I typically like to hop on a quick phone call to chat about the two different types of newborn sessions I offer. This helps us figure out which one is the perfect fit for your style, vision, and budget. After our phone consultation, we'll tentatively book your spot with the retainer fee, and I'll email over all your pricing details.
Once your baby is born, just send me an email with their birthdate, weight, and name, and we will officially lock in your session date for around that 14-day mark!
This is the number one worry for almost every parent, but I promise you can take a deep breath! We are highly trained in soothing techniques to keep your little one completely content. We keep the studio heated to a cozy 80 degrees so your baby stays warm and comfortable, especially while changing outfits, wraps, and poses.
After photographing newborns for over 12 years, I have a few tricks up my sleeve and can almost always get at least 5 to 10 beautiful images, even on a fussy day. While I can't absolutely guarantee a specific pose, my goal for every single session is to patiently work through each setup safely.
Once you book, I will send you a Newborn Preparation Guide. This will give you detailed instructions on what to expect, how to prep your baby, specific directions to my home studio, and even some styling tips on what Mom and Dad should wear.
The biggest tip? Give your baby a full feeding, a good burp, and a fresh diaper right before you leave the house. Between a full belly and the motion of the car ride, they almost always arrive fast asleep! I'll have you dress them in just a diaper and a simple zip-up sleeper (no onesies that have to go over the head). When you arrive, I'll sanitize my hands, gently lift your baby right out of their car seat, and get straight to work while you relax.
Safety is my absolute top priority. That is exactly why I almost always have a professional assistant with me during my newborn sessions. This ensures your baby is physically supported every single second while allowing Mom and Dad to completely sit back, relax, and enjoy a break.
My assistant stays within arm's length for every single shot to spot your baby. Furthermore, I only practice safe posing. For example, popular setups like the "froggy pose" are always done as a safe composite (combining two images in Photoshop) rather than ever risking a baby balancing on their own.
Yes! Right after your newborn session is finished, you will come into my office to view all the images from our time together. You'll select and purchase your final images that very day, and the balance due will be taken care of then. Once you've chosen your favorites, I'll get to work hand-editing those specific images to perfection.
You will receive your completed online gallery within 2 to 3 weeks, though my goal is always to get them back to you even sooner whenever my schedule allows!
Absolutely! I am a big believer that your images deserve to live on your walls and in your hands, not just on a hard drive. I highly recommend purchasing a beautiful heirloom keepsake album or professional prints. I handle all the printing through professional, lab-grade vendors, so the quality and color accuracy are absolutely stunning. You'll get to view and approve your custom album design (and request any changes) before anything ever goes to print.
My newborn session fee is $150, which is due at the time of booking to secure your spot. This fee covers my time, talent, my assistant, and full access to my extensive collection of props, wraps, and backdrops, plus coffee, water, and snacks to keep you comfortable in the studio!
Digital images, custom collections, and physical prints are purchased separately on the day of your session. Because I want you to only buy what you love, what you spend depends entirely on your budget and how many images you choose. On average, clients typically invest between $375 and $3,000 depending on the session type and collection you choose.
I always recommend keeping it simple, classic, and neutral! Cream, soft grays, whites, and muted earth tones work beautifully and keep the focus entirely on your new baby. Once you book, my Newborn Prep Guide goes into full detail with color palette ideas and wardrobe inspiration for Mom, Dad, and siblings. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident!
You don't need to bring a thing! My studio is fully stocked with an extensive collection of high-end, boutique props, custom wraps, delicate headbands, bonnets, and outfits specifically designed for newborn photography. Every single item is thoroughly washed and sanitized between sessions. If you have a special family heirloom or a specific blanket you'd like to incorporate, you are more than welcome to bring it, but otherwise, I have everything covered.
My cozy, dedicated newborn home studio is located in Upper Arlington, Ohio. To ensure the absolute best results, all of my specialized newborn sessions are held right here in the studio. This is where I have full control over the studio lighting, the 80-degree temperature, and instant access to my entire collection of props, backdrops, and safety equipment.
If you prefer an in-home lifestyle session, please let me know and that is also something I can do for you, but a majority of my clients prefer the studio.
Don't worry, this happens all the time! When you pay your retainer, your due date acts as a placeholder on my calendar. Because I strictly limit the number of sessions I take each month, I always leave plenty of room in my schedule to shift things around. Once your baby makes their official debut, just shoot me an email within the first couple of days and we will set the perfect, official date.
