There is something truly irreplaceable about the look on a child’s face when they realize they aren’t just looking at a man in a red suit, but the “real” Santa Claus. This past year, my heart was so full as I watched families walk through my studio doors to experience our Santa Sessions in Columbus Ohio. These aren’t your typical, rushed mall visits; they are intentional, quiet moments designed to capture the genuine wonder of childhood.

I’ve heard from so many parents that their previous holiday photo experiences felt like a conveyor belt—rushed, loud, and frankly, a bit stressful. That’s exactly why I built this experience to be different. Our Santa is absolutely fantastic. Not only is he incredibly photogenic with a gorgeous real beard, but he also takes the time to actually sit and interact with every single child. Whether they are shy or bursting with stories, he meets them right where they are.

As one of my sweet clients, Kristen, shared after her session:
“Our experience was top notch—the girls who were the elves were so sweet! I really appreciate how you spoke with Vincent and were so engaging; we have had some prior experiences that felt more rushed and not as authentic—everything was wonderful.”
The magic starts the second you arrive. You won’t find any long, fluorescent-lit lines here. Instead, your family is greeted by name by my wonderful elves. They make the kids feel like VIPs from the start, escorting them into the studio to meet the big guy himself.

Once inside, the children get to see their very own names on Santa’s official Nice List scroll. It’s a moment that never gets old! While they are busy chatting about their year, I’m capturing those candid expressions. Later, I add a touch of “digital North Pole magic” during the editing process—incorporating sparkles and glows that bring that childhood imagination to life in the final portraits.

The fun doesn’t end when the photos are done. To wrap up the visit, the elves escort the children to receive a special treat: a custom-designed cookie with their name on it from Captain Kelly’s Cookies. It’s the perfect way to end a relaxed, joyful morning and leaves everyone with a smile (and a snack!).
One of the most common questions I get is, “What should my kids wear for their visit with Santa?” Because the set for our Santa Sessions in Columbus Ohio is so rich and detailed, your clothing choices really help pull the whole magical look together.
Whether you want to go classic and formal or cozy and cute, here are my top recommendations for styling your session.
If you love an upscale, heirloom feel, I always recommend dressing the kids up in their holiday best. I personally love brands like Janie and Jack for these sessions because their pieces have that classic structure that looks incredible on camera.

For example, I had a brother and sister in the studio recently who were dressed perfectly. The boy wore a deep green velvet jacket, and his sister wore a coordinating green and blue plaid dress. The textures; especially that velvet catch the light beautifully and create a very high-end, polished look that will stay timeless on your walls for decades.

On the other hand, some families prefer a more relaxed, “Christmas morning” vibe. Matching pajamas are a wonderful choice, especially for younger children who might feel more comfortable and ready to play in something soft.
This style photographs exceptionally well and captures that sweet, childhood innocence. If you go this route, look for high-quality cotton or flannel sets in traditional patterns like buffalo plaid or classic stripes to keep the look cohesive.

Regardless of the style you choose, I always suggest sticking to traditional holiday tones. Think:
Rich Jewel Tones: Deep reds, forest greens, and navy blues.
Classic Textures: Velvet, wool, and lace.
The Finishing Touches: Don’t forget the accessories! Items like knit hats, delicate tights, velvet headbands, and oversized bows add that extra layer of “wow” to your portraits.
These little details are often what turn a great photo into a favorite memory. When everyone is coordinated (but not perfectly “matching”), it allows the focus to stay on those beautiful, excited expressions when they finally see Santa!
